Are you a health care professional? Do you have a family member who works in health care? Please consider attending the 15th annual White Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E. Fourth St., Duluth, on Sunday, Oct. 20. Bishop Daniel Felton will celebrate the Mass at 10:30 a.m.
A White Mass, so named for the white coats traditionally worn by physicians, honors all those who work in health care, such as doctors, nurses, lab workers, dietary staff, administrators, and others. Workers from all faiths are welcome. The Mass is traditionally celebrated on or near Oct. 18, which is the feast of St. Luke, patron saint of physicians. Dr. C. Dennis O'Hare
Following the White Mass, a brunch will be served by the Knights of Columbus at Holy Rosary School, across the street from the cathedral. A $10 charge for brunch will be collected at the entrance to the school. The brunch speaker this year is Dr. C. Dennis O’Hare, MD, MS. Dr. O’Hare is the current state director of the Catholic Medical Association and actively practices with Bluestone Physician Services as an assisted-living and memory care/geriatric physician. His talk, “To Hear and To Heed,” will focus on our role as Christian health care advocates in a culture that may not necessarily support our beliefs. Since Jesus shed his blood for us, what is our role in improving our culture? How do we fight our battles?
The White Mass is sponsored by St. Raphael’s Guild of the Catholic Medical Association. See the website, duluthcathmed.org, for information.
