Retreats 

Christ the King Retreat Center in Buffalo will host day away retreats for both men and women Nov. 16 and Dec. 4, as well as weekend retreats Nov. 8-10 and Dec. 13-15. Craft show 

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary will hold its annual holiday craft show Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Stella Maris Academy — Holy Rosary Campus, 2802 E. Fourth St., Duluth. Shop for the holidays with more than 60 local arts and crafts vendors. There will also be a bake sale and delicious food available for purchase. 

Hard Liquor, Hard Questions 

The Cathedral of the Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E. Fourth St., Duluth, is hosting “Hard Liquor, Hard Questions,” a monthly event series for adults. The main purpose of this event series is to answer the big questions of our Catholic faith while building community with other adults. The events are held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Cathedral social hall. Women’s Mornings of Reflections 

The Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus will be hosting women’s Mornings of Reflection Saturdays, Nov. 9, and Dec. 7, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E. Fourth St., Duluth. The mornings will begin with Mass at 8 a.m. and will include breakfast, a talk by the sisters, small group discussion, Eucharistic Adoration, and an opportunity for the sacrament of confession. Concert 

You’re invited to an evening with the award-winning singer and songwriter Matt Maher. Come for a night of music and inspirational storytelling on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Gichi-Ziibi Center in Brainerd. Bazaar 

St. Mary’s Altar Society will be holding a bazaar at St. Charles, 308 Central Ave., Cass Lake, on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature a quilt raffle, silent auction, bake sale, lunch, and door prizes. Call (218) 760-3644 with questions. 

Turkey bingo 

Immaculate Conception Church is sponsoring turkey bingo Saturday, Nov. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Cromwell Pavilion, 1272 Highway 73, Cromwell. $10 for 20 games, raffle baskets, and split the pot. Lunch will be served.

St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 325 E. Third Street, Duluth, will be holding turkey bingo Sunday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. Twenty turkeys will be given away, plus other gift certificates. A total of 30 games will be played. Price of boards is $2 each. There will be a $1 raffle. First prize is $500, second prize is $300, third prize is $200. Visio Divina 

The Center for Spirituality and Enrichment at St. Scholastica Monastery will host an evening of contemplative prayer through the use of images, music, and sacred writings via Zoom on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. No prior experience is needed. Christmas cookie sale 

The St. James Church Wotczak Memorial is holding its annual Christmas Cookie Sale on Saturday, Nov. 30, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. until sold out. Cookies are baked fresh, never frozen, on Saturday, Nov. 30. $4.50 per dozen. The sale is held in the church hall at St. James, 721 N. 57th Ave. W., Duluth (use rear entrance). Holiday art and trunk show 

Star of the North Maternity Home is holding a holiday art and trunk show Saturday, Nov. 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Holy Rosary School, 2802 E. Fourth St., Duluth. There will also be savory and sweet crepes, as well as a bake sale. 

Rosary for life 

The Rosary Society and the Catholic Medical Association, along with the Pastoral Council Parish Life Group, will be leading a rosary for life before the Sunday, 9:15 a.m. St. Mary Star of the Sea Mass and the Sunday, 10:30 a.m. Cathedral Mass. They will begin the rosary at 8:45 a.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea, 325 E. Third St., Duluth, and at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E. Fourth St., Duluth. This will help bring healing, hope, and joy to the mission field, found through the intercession of Mary and to enter the mysteries of Jesus through the rosary. The Catholic Church teaches that all human life is sacred and that everyone has a right to life, which should be protected and valued at all stages of life, from conception to natural death. 

Expanding Horizons 

Expanding Horizons is a five-hour immersion experience that gives community members the opportunity to learn about poverty, hunger, and homelessness in Duluth by visiting organizations that work with people experiencing these realities every day. Groups learn about the impacts of poverty, hunger, and homelessness on Duluthians and see first-hand some of the available resources. St. Vincent de Paul Society 

The St. Vincent de Paul Society meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of the month at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 E. Fourth St., Duluth, in the multipurpose room. Carmelite community 

A third order Carmelite community meets monthly at St. Joseph Church, 315 S.W. 21st St., Grand Rapids. Meetings are held the first Saturday of each month. Rosary at 8:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 9 a.m., and morning prayer. Communion and Liberation 

Communion and Liberation is a movement for the ongoing education in the Catholic faith. The organization has a tool for deepening our faith, called “School of Community,” in which they study and meditate on texts written by Father Luigi Giussani and other associates. Locally the group meets in Duluth on Sunday evenings, with occasional gatherings in between. Additionally, it participates in one monthly charitable work project. Living in God’s Divine Will 

An introductory study group is meeting every Thursday after the noon Mass at St. Mary Star of the Sea, 325 E. Third St., Duluth. Adoration and Divine Mercy Chaplet 

Every Friday, immediately after the noon Mass at St. Mary Star of the Sea, 325 E. Third St., Duluth, there is exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with adoration until 3 p.m. At 3 p.m. the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is recited, followed by Benediction. 

Prayer group 

A prayer group meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the St. James Church cafeteria at 721 N. 57th Ave. W., Duluth. Please park in the back parking lot. Coffee and goodies for a social after prayer. Handicapped accessible. Contact Sharon at (218) 590-2265 with questions. 

Carmelite community

Charismatic prayer group 

Proclaimers of Christ Catholic charismatic prayer group meets the second Thursday of the month at St. Agnes Church, 210 Division St., Walker. Father Solanus Casey Fraternity 

The Father Solanus Casey Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order meets the third Sunday of each month at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 2430 W. Third St., Duluth. Secular Franciscans are lay Catholics and diocesan priests who commit themselves to living lives of simplicity, prayer, peacemaking, and service to the church and others, especially the poor. Secular Franciscans are part of the worldwide Franciscan family, including friars and religious sisters, who follow in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi. Secular Franciscan Order 

The Spiritus Sanctus Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order meets the fourth Thursday of each month at St. Francis Church, 411 N. Tenth St., Brainerd. Gatherings begin at 5 p.m. with evening prayer, followed by Mass, a potluck dinner, and meeting. Public square rosary 

Our Lady of Fatima, Garrison, and Holy Family, Bulldog Lake, hold a public square rosary the fourth Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. near the big walleye fish at the lookout on Mille Lacs Lake in Garrison (Highway 169). All are invited to join in prayer. The rosary is prayed for the intentions of our Blessed Mother, the conversion of sinners, and to reconcile ourselves, our families, and our nation back to God. Log church tours 

Tours are offered of the old log church at Sts. Mary and Joseph Church in Sawyer. The log church is on the National Register of Historic Sites. Narrated tours are led by Deacon Bryan Bassa.
