Bridges of Hope of Minnesota, through Operation Sandwich, provides much needed meals to students in the Brainerd Lakes Area facing summer hunger. With help from their partners, grocery bags are available for pick-up once per week, with each bag containing five days’ worth of bread, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, snacks, and fresh fruit and/or vegetables. They hope to raise $40,000 to meet the needs of kids and their families in 2023. Chum, 102 W. Second St., Duluth, is in need of food items to help fill its food shelf to keep up with the summer rush. The food shelf always sees an increase in need during the summer months due to kids being out of school. Any food will help, but items they are most in need of include rice (one pound bags), dry pasta, pasta sauce, canned soups, canned pasta, peanut butter, and macaroni and cheese.
