The Rev. John Marohnic, O.M.I., who was ordained Aug. 14 in the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Duluth, offered his first Solemn Mass at St. Thomas Church, International Falls, on Sunday, Aug. 15. Father Marohnic was the first member from St. Thomas to receive Holy Orders. It was announced that the Rev. Leonard Robitaille, O.M.I., of Duluth would be leaving with a group of priests to help found a mission in Japan. Also, Sister M. Emily, Sister M. Jerome, Sister M. Hiltrudes, and Sister M. Dolorosa, Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict, celebrated their golden jubilees.

Bishop Paul Sirba, with a group of the faithful and several concelebrating priests, celebrated Mass for the feast day of St. Kateri Tekakwitha July 14 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary — part of the Year of Faith celebration for the Diocese of Duluth. Seminarians and other members of the Diocese of Duluth reminisced about attending World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro in July 2013. The Catholic television network EWTN aired a series entitled “The Papacy: A Living History,” which was based on the papal artifacts collection of Father Richard Kunst. The diocese also mourned the death of Father James Golden, who had served the Diocese of Duluth since 1948, and celebrated the jubilees of ten women who had each served as Benedictine sisters for 65 years or more.
