Parish-based grant award 

The Mercy House project at Immaculate Heart Church in Crosslake was recently awarded a $1,000 parish-based grant from the Human Life and Development Fund of the diocese. Mercy House, which started more than 30 years ago, is a parish-based project that makes medical equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, shower seats, and more, available to all members of the community. Mercy House operates on faith. No records are kept of who borrows the items. There is no charge for the equipment, only the request that is returned in good condition. They also accept donations of non-electrical, durable medical equipment in good condition to be loaned out to others. The grant money received will be used to purchase additional equipment needed to meet the ever-increasing demand for these items. 

Parish-based grants of up to $1,000 are available to all parishes in the diocese and funds can be used for short term projects within the parish. Previous grants have allowed parishes to fund a speaker, provide supplemental funds for a retreat, and purchase materials for an adult education program. 40 Days for Life 

The 40 Days for Life Duluth team is very pleased to announce there will be a fall 40 Days for Life prayer vigil this year, from Sept. 27 through Nov. 5. The Duluth 40 Days website is now open and everyone is encouraged to register and start to consider what days and times they are available to witness to life by joining this peaceful prayer vigil.
